FAQ

What Is EdgeFest?

The Edge of the World Theater Festival is Los Angeles' premier festival for homegrown, cutting-edge theater. Originally the Festival was designed to celebrate the diverse productions of L.A.'s vibrant theater community, and to broaden the audience for this work. As it has grown, the Festival has focused more and more on new and experimental theater. It offers approximately 50 curated productions, commissions new plays, and hosts several special events, including the "L.A. History Project" and a variety of discussions and roundtables.

Where is it?

EdgeFest plays out throughout Los Angeles. Though the majority of EdgeFest productions are in Hollywood, the Festival makes every effort to embrace the geographic sprawl of our city, by creating "hubs" of theaters and events in different regions throughout L.A. In the past, EdgeFest has featured featured shows as far-reaching as Santa Monica, Pasadena, and even Long Beach.

When is it?

This year's Festival runs from October 6-23, spanning three weekends and eighteen days.

Who can apply?

EdgeFest is open to any theater artist or company based in the Los Angeles region. Unfortunately, the Festival cannot currently support touring productions or companies that are based outside of Los Angeles. L.A.-based companies are welcome to co-produce or host out-of-towners, but the local company must submit the application, and EdgeFest cannot make special allowances for these shows.

Consideration for EdgeFest is limited to new productions or productions that have had fewer than 12 performaces prior to October 6, 2005. Remounts are not eligible, though reworkings may be.

When will applications be available?

The applications will be available in March 2005. Please join our email list to be notified when they are available.

  • How is the Festival curated?

  • Originality and innovation of the proposed project, in style, subject, or form
  • Demonstrated artistic quality of the applicant's work
  • Demonstrated ability to implement the proposed project
  • Fit with EdgeFest's mission
