Three Ring
Thursday - Sunday, October 6-9 & 13-16

1 Hula Hoop + 2 (or 3) women = “Three Ring”, a Lit Theater bonus event for EdgeFest. One part circus carnival, two parts guerilla theater, three rings of drama, comedy and commentary in two (or three) parts. Join Serina Sauvage, Saint of the Stunts, Lady Lorinda (and Her Legs of Steel) and Caroli, The Catatonic Canon Bomber as they attempt to answer the burning question: Are there really circus saints, or aren’t there? There’s a Space for Us
Saturday, October 15, 10:30am-12:30pm

Market pressures have forced many prominent theater companies out of their performance spaces in the past year. This discussion presented by PLAY7 is intended to help theater makers develop strategies to acquire and retain space in the communities they serve. Panelists from government, business and the arts will be on hand to contribute insight and advice. 10:30am to 12:30pm

Free, but reservations required. Seating is limited. Please email info@PLAY7.com by October 10, 2005 for a reservation.

Developing Our Play: A Town Hall
Sunday, October 16, 2:00pm- 4:00pm

The LA Weekly has been hosting a series of roundtables discussing the ramifications of the recent closing of the Center Theatre Group’s play development labs and the shuttering of A.S.K Theatre Projects. Did we need them anyway? What worked about them, what didn’t? Can we fill that void and collectively organize to perpetuate the development of our playwrights? Questions and (some) answers in this open forum for L.A. theater makers. Moderated by Steven Leigh Morris. Free.

Song of the Goat (Teatr Pieśń Kozła) Theater Workshop
Saturday, October 22, 10:00am-3:00pm

Song of the Goat is one of several contemporary performing arts companies who count themselves as the artistic inheritors of the tradition of Jerzy Grotowski, called by director and scholar Richard Schechner “one of the five great forces in European theater in the twentieth century.” This legendary Polish troupe is offering this workshop to introduce interested actors and students to the working methods and performance techniques of the company.
Registration is $50.

There is very limited space for this workshop. Please submit payment to Ghost Road Company at P.O. Box 2323, Culver City, CA 90230 (checks should be made payable to “Ghost Road Company”). Please include all contact info (name, phone, email, address). For more information or questions email GRC5Year@aol.com.

The Manhattan Monologue Slam
Saturday, October 22, 11:15pm

In this special EdgeFest edition of the Manhattan Monologue Slam, hosted by the Galinsky Brothers, 8 actors perform character-based theatrical monologues before a panel of celebrity judges, vying for the MMSlam National Title. In part two of the evening, audience members who sign up at the door face-off in a 30-second competition. It’s not poetry, not spoken word, not performance art, not improv, not storytelling, not stand-up comedy - it’s acting for actors. $5 (cash only) cover at the door. Passport holders and EdgeFest participants are two for $5.
